Playback issues on Sonos

Issue description

Hi,

I’ve been using symfonium for sonos playback for a while now but it seems to be having issues playing most files all of a sudden. I’ve tried disabling/enabling anything to do with transcoding and gapless playback. As well as making sure its using a local copy of the file. None of these improved playback.

The only changes I’ve made on my end is moving to a new domain name (but that shouldn’t be an issue on a local connection) and added a new googleTv to the network.

Thanks!

Steps to reproduce

  1. play song
  2. select sonos in cast menu
  3. observe songs being skipped until one works

In the logs you have gapless enabled and some of the files are tried to be played from the server not from offline cache.

Please provide a lot more details and test without gapless

Similar to Playback keeps skipping tracks - #4 by baking , but I don’t have gapless playback enabled

i’ve uploaded a new log with gapless off and prefer offline cache on. The playlist is backed up to my phone so if its playing from the server still idk whats up. youll see in the log that atarashii gakko and then ajj are skipped but mutoid man plays successfully

interestingly im seeing a lot of connection refused for my new TV (192.168.2.199) when im streaming to the sonos

I dont think this has to do with what baking shared as playback is flawless on my local device

i should also share that im on jellyfin 10.10.7
Im not sure what other details i can add. i start playback, try to cast to sonos, and then it just does the spinning loading over the play button and skips songs until one works

Do you have a firewall or some security tools on the phone / access point ?

Other question would be does this always happen on the same songs and maybe the device does not like them.

In the logs all works correctly, the sonos starts to load the media then stops with no indication of the reason.

Nope. just the router, no extra equipment. i have a vpn but its disabled and points to this network so shouldnt matter.

it seems the same songs skip/play every time. but, they all play (local copy) when im not connected to the sonos

im going to try unplugging the TV once its free and ill follow up if that changes anything

tv is not the issue (why would it be lol)

If it’s always the same song causing the issue they are maybe just not compatible with Sonos.

The songs worked before. they also fail during online playback which has server-side transcoding enabled (i havent checked if it gets triggered but it doesnt play anyways).

i checked the files and they are all the exact same settings (VBR flac 16 bit) so i feel its not a file issue

The thing is that feelings does not matter in issue resolution

If the files does not play from server too then Symfonium is not even involved it just send the url to the device.

Provide logs playing from server.

JF Log
I tried playing a few songs (with prefer cached version). the first 3 worked but the next 3 failed. I also tried with jf shutdown with no change.

from this point in the log pastebin says my paste has offensive content so i can upload it here as a json just lmk

I then tried playing songs from the same albums which arent cached and they all played.

it seems to be an issue with the files on my phone. i deleted the cached version (192 mp3) and downloaded the original (flac) which fixed it. i then downgraded it to mp3 again and it stopped working.

I took the initiative to check another track which is originally mp3 192 and that works while chached. But, if i cache it as mp3 64 it fails

So ig its an issue with the jellyfin transcoding?

Symfonium offline cache transcoded content in opus not mp3 and it’s not supported by Sonos.

well there you have it ig. i couldve sworn i tried disabling using the cached version smh. and chance for an encode to mp3 option?

just to add: when i set my max stream bitrate to below the mp3’s it transcodes from the mp3 to flac 24 bit (which plays, but is a larger file)

thanks for the help btw. Maybe we can get a sonos page on the wiki stating it isnt compatible with the opus files.
