Locale sorting

Feature description:

I’m a Chinese. I hope locale sorting supported in Chinese pinyin.

Problem solved:

Ascii sorting is confusing to Chinese

Brought benefits:

Chinese pinyin sorting is more acceptable by Chinese people

Other application solutions:

You can refer to java.text.collator

Additional description and context:

Screenshots / Mockup:

Uncheck the option ascii sort in database settings.

Android sqlite does not support pinyin collation properly and I do not sort in memory as I support very very very large libraries.

Insert items with field title_sort_key when syncing with libraries.

example:
Title: 中国
lookup a map(unicodes to pinyin first letters)
got title_sort_key: zg

Is this implementable?

Not really there’s a half a dozen text fields that can be sorted that would require a tons of storage + very slow sync + complex settings that most users would not understand all that for a country that currently can’t even purchase the app easily.

But you can use the music sort_title sort_album and everything to do it yourself most providers support them.

Sort_title from jellyfin do solve locale sorting. Thanks.

Chinese translation for ‘Sort title’ in album list is “按标题” which means “by title” in English.
“标题”(Title) and “按标题”(By title) are same in Chinese.
I would never figure it out if I have not set the app language to English.

Sort title - 按标题 is confusing.
Chinese translation for “Sort name” in artist list has the same issue.

Alternatives:

  • Sort title
    – 短标题(Short title), translation from jellyfin
    – 别名(Alias)
  • Sort name
    – 昵称(Nickname)
    – 别名(Alias)

Translations are made by users.

Help translating Symfonium if there’s things to fix.
