High bandwidh usage

App version

Production

Issue description

Yesterday I noticed that the app was using an abnormally large amount of mobile data. In just half an hour of listening (with a lot of skipping between songs), it used 3.8 GB.

For comparison, YMusic used around 300 MB over the course of 7 days.

I installed GlassWire and checked the data usage. When I played 20 random songs for about one second each (by repeatedly tapping skip), Symfonium used 100–200 MB of data. While I was testing different options, it downloaded over 1 GB in total.

It seems like the app immediately downloads the entire song as soon as playback starts.

My server is a home Jellyfin server.

I also tried Finamp, and in that app everything worked as expected.

Your enabled playback cache that does that + in the logs have the waveform extraction enabled on mobile if you are on mobile in those logs.

Thank you for the quick response. Could you please help me understand exactly what I need to disable?

I think that it’s: Settings > Advanced > Database Settings > Extract server files waveforms (Always)

It was set to Wi-Fi only. I’ve turned that off now, but data usage is still very high (I’m currently testing it over Wi-Fi).
