During setting up I chose the “recommended” media import for Android (top button) instead of me being smart and choosing the bottom button. Recommended does work.

BEFORE importing my playlist, I then just waited on the starting screen for it to fetch all metadata. Took about 4 minutes (bad wifi here).

Imported playlist, but not before using my File manager and making a dupe of the Samsung playlist, and importing the dupe .m3u file

Set the new playlist to be read-write in symphonium.
If this continues to be this slick an experience, definitely will buy the app.
