Under manage media providers > local device, there is an option to generate missing artist thumbnails. This worked on my previous phone, but since I got a new one it no longer generates them and I see the standard ‘person icon’ for every artist.
I have tried:
clearing cache (in multiple ways and multiple times)
changing the settings: turning them off and syncing, turning them back on and syncing again
What does work: long pressing the header on an artist page > change local thumbnail > generate from tracks (random). Doing this for several hundred artists would be very time-consuming, however.
That’s odd. I have 130 artists in my library, and only three with an image (the three I manually generated). I did indeed make and restore a backup from my previous phone, though I ticked all of the boxes, even the ones that are off by default and say “can create very large backups”.
Does clearing the image cache, media info cache, scraped artist cache, and app cache (via Android settings) not clear the images?
Also, if the logs do say 21 artists are missing an image, why are those not generated when I sync local storage with the “generate missing thumbnails from songs” option on? I feel like I am misunderstanding the functionality.
I am not familiar with API use. I understand from the article that I should enter “app.symfonium.api.CUSTOM_ACTION” in a Broadcast receiver? What is a Broadcast receiver?
Check the backup it does not have the images (it’s a zip) but the data still have the fact that you had images in case you restore them later or manually.
The 21 without thumb are artists without tracks so probably album artists.
Album artists could make sense. I might have mistagged some files in that case.
I checked the backup settings on my previous phone, but I don’t see an option for images. I guess I just assumed that they would be under user data or file tags. Should they have been there and did I do something wrong, or are locally generated images never backed up but only the information that an image should be there?
