Artist/Album page - Add custom string slots

Feature description:

Posted on behalf of @Zyntaxyz

They would like 1-2 custom strings slots added to the Artist/Album pages for the purpose of customizing the “About” section.

These new strings would have customizable tap/long-press actions similar to NPS strings, but would instead be linked to the “About” section categories. (e.g. “Go to Media Type” or “Go to Language”)

Problem solved:

The “About” section currently has a fairly static layout. Items can be rearranged or disabled, but customizing the layout itself is fairly limited.

Brought benefits:

Custom strings would provide an alternative means of displaying the info present in the “About” section. (As far as I know, all info is already accessible given the available templates.) The big bonus is that a string can display this info in any format the user desires to suit their layout.

Allows layout of “About” section to change dynamically based on the content available. (e.g. Show Country and Release Date when Media Type is set to “CD” but not when set to “Digital”)

Other application solutions:

Additional description and context:

Pic 1: mockup of potential click actions for new strings
Pic 2: mockup showing ability to rearrange position of these new strings among the remaining Artist/Album page items (new strings are not limited to “About” section, but can be placed before/after the Media List)
Pic 3: mockup showing one potential style. The info below the track list is shown via a string instead of the individual “About” categories.

In Pic 3, Date is formatted to user’s preference and (Record Label + Country) are displayed on a single line.

Vertical space needed is vastly reduced. The user gains a lot of flexibility to show info in a manner that best suits them.

And yes, these custom strings should have their own scale factor settings, same as album subtitle and the Now playing screen :slightly_smiling_face:

Was about to suggest this. The About section has a lot of toggles that make sense for novice users but that create an obstacle for users that want to use Custom Strings.
