Android TV Navigation problems

Feature description

I’ve made two videos showing the problems I have and what i’d suggest is below.
1/ Left > Right behaviour - as you see in the video, when the Top Left button is selected and I then press the Right navigation on the remote, the normal behaviour is the selection would move Right. At present it moves Right but three rows down! Sometimes it moves right, other times Right and Down… The position of the highlighted button should determine where the R and L buttons target. They should be in horizontally identical positions, or as much as possible. This would make navigation very intuitive and clear.

2/ Up > Down behaviour - as you see in the video, when scrolling down a list and getting to the bottom, you often find the highlight has disappeared from the list and is now highlighting some buttons on the Left. This should never happen. Either the highglight should stop at the bottom of the list and go no further until you give it a command that makes sense, like Up or Left, or the other way of dealing with it would be for the highlight to go from the bottom of the list to the top again, so it cycles through the list if you just kept pressing Down or kept pressing UP… so Up Down would never automatically to left or right. That makes navigation very messy and confusing.

My request is to please keep L-R separate from U-D so that navigation is visually predictable. Thanks!!

Problem solved

Confusion from navigation that is unexpected and difficult to follow or understand.

Brought benefits

Clear and simple, universally understood left right up down movements that are visually satisfying as they are predictable.

Here is that post rewritten with working links!

Ideally, IMO they should navigate horizontally, or as close to horizontally as possible. This would make navigation very intuitive and clear.

2/ Up > Down behaviour - as you see in the video, when scrolling down a list and getting to the bottom, you often find the highlight has disappeared from the list and is now highlighting some buttons on the Left. This should never happen. Either the highglight should stop at the bottom of the list and go no further until you give it a command that makes sense, like Up or Left, or the other way of dealing with it would be for the highlight to go from the bottom of the list to the top again, so it cycles through the list if you just kept pressing Down or kept pressing UP… so Up Down would never automatically jump to left or right. Jumping like that makes navigation very unpredictable and confusing.
