Simple. Allow crossfading to be used between songs in a single album. It is also possible to add individual toggles for albums and playlists.
Problem solved
Many albums are designed as a listening experience, instead of many singles together. Take in Hybrid Theory, for example, where pads, synths, SFX, and feedback lead into another song. The gap between the songs breaks the immersion.
Instead of a gap, the instruments that “lead into” the next track will instead play on top of the next track. (Likely out of sync with the other track as well.)
Sounds to me like what you are looking for is “gapless playback”. I don’t know too much about getting that going, so hopefully someone else can chime in there.
Huh. You’re right. Gapless playback still isn’t a thing here, as far as I’m aware. Even so, a small crossfade (say, about 20-50ms in and out) would be pretty nice.
