Album Cover Art Visible Inconsistency

Issue description:

Background: I edit and tag my locally owned music on my PC using MusicBrainz, then transfer it to my phone. Everything used to work smoothly, but recently I’ve run into a strange issue with album art. The album art I embed shows up in some places, but not others, and I haven’t found any pattern or consistency to it.

Here’s the behavior I’m seeing:

The cover art does not show up in the preview/thumbnail display — instead, my phone defaults to some unrelated image it already has stored.

The cover art does show correctly on the Now Playing screen.

I’ve saved the files multiple times with the correct embedded cover, both as local cover art and as the primary image in MusicBrainz, and the issue still occurs.

Here are the exact scenarios that I can reproduce with 100% consistency:

Scenario that works:

I transfer the edited music to my phone.

I open my music app and view the tracks.

On the Now Playing screen, the correct album art always shows.

Scenario that doesn’t work:

I browse the music in any preview list or library grid.

The album art thumbnails frequently default to a totally unrelated image stored on my phone.

Re-saving or re-embedding the cover art doesn’t fix the thumbnails, even though the Now Playing screen continues to show the correct art.

I’d describe this as more of a nuisance than a breaking issue, but it’s definitely annoying, especially when I took the time to pick out the artwork I wanted.

Has anyone else run into something like this? Is there any rhyme or reason behind why thumbnails pull a random image while the Now Playing screen uses the correct embedded art?

Reproduction steps:

  1. Opening the app fresh
  2. Fresh sync and app update
  3. Click open new tracks that have cover art added via musicbrainz from my pc that typically is saved and reflected in the app
  4. Press play on the track that defaults to the a different cover on the preview cover art section and notice on the play now has the actual intended cover art.

The “random”, “unrelated” image you mention, is it in the same folder as your files? Folder structure is taken into account when displaying images.

If all your files are unorganised in a single folder that also contains image files Symfonium will assume they are related.

The logs does not contains a scan so hard to know exactly what you do.

Go to settings / advanced /clear image cache as a start.

Fellow RAP Ferreira fan I see :fire:

funny enough the singles that I collect in the general music folder all have the similar image. the image is from an old cover art from an album I also have living in the same folder however the album live in its own folder and there is no JPG or image files of it in the general folder.

does that new information change anything?

just sent a log today from the username: thegoldmolar

please let me know if that works for you. also please let me know the name of the area that is supposed to have the cover art in the preview aka the big image area in the first picture with the smiley face. maybe I can find a solution on the reddit when I find the official name for that area.

Again without a sync in the logs I can’t know what is applied to what.

But if multiple albums in the same folder share the same image then you definitively have an image in that folder that is used.

Apologies I tried sending the logs from the app as it asked for my username immediately after aka my current username, thegoldmolar.

Can I please email or DM you the log files? I do not have the option to send it from this forum. Also if we DM about it please send the first message as I cannot figure how to start a chat in this site.

It’s all in the docs

So exactly as said, those albums files are in /Music/Staging and there’s a cover.jpg in that folder.

I isolated the loose cover art files into their own folder and synced it again. Everything now shows the cover art in the preview now.
